Your residence visa and Emirates ID are renewed together. Here is when to start, what happens step by step, and how long you can stay if it runs out.
Checked October 2026
Start a few weeks before the expiry date. Your Emirates ID, health insurance and (for family visas) tenancy contract must all be valid when you apply, so check those dates first.
You get a grace period to renew or leave. For most visas it is 30 days. Some categories get longer: 60 days for permits issued with a guarantor or host, 90 days for some skilled workers and property owners, and 6 months for Golden and Green visa holders and their families. After the grace period, overstay fines start.
You can check exactly how many days you have on ICP: Public Services → File Validity, then search by passport or Emirates ID.
Visa, Emirates ID, passport, health insurance and Ejari all have their own dates — and one expired document can hold up the others. Keep them in one place so nothing surprises you.
